Race and Class in the American Criminal Justice System

It is a great look to see how O.J's trial made such a great impact on how society is viewed when its comes to race and class. We all know how society is and how certain races and classes are viewed but to actually read the statistics it makes you think wow this is the actual percentage of minorities. When David cole said "for every one black man who graduates from college, 100 are arrested." my jaw dropped that is so shocking to hear. i believe its not just with black people though. I just feel like when people do go out and commit a crime SOME of the time its because that person is trying to hustle so they can live, keep their apartment, feed their child and in time of desperate need crime happens. minoirties are also victimized by crimes statistics shows that more white males use drugs the blacks but more blacks are in jail for drugs then the white males.

Killing us Softly

Jeans talk was great. Even when we don't realize it we are looking at advertisement. When never really look at the messages behind these advertisements. A lot of advertisement portrays women. When you look all around women are trying to match up to watch societies image is for them which is being skinny.  by using women to advertise it give society and makes the image of how women should look and dress. Because of this many women have eating disorders. I believe that everyone is equal why should society have an image based on how all of us SHOULD look. We all come from different cultures and are raised different ways so why that one specific look Skinny. There are so many beautiful women who are not skinny  who are curvy or plus size. There should be no image being that skinny is not a good way to show and teach young women.

I love how Tony Porter started off by say how men are looked at by society, society gives them tat norm that you don't cry, don't show fear, they are superior, dominating, no emotion except anger, men are in charge, strong, women are property to men. I feel like what he says is so true. It is so rare to find a man that will cry and get everything off his chest because they are scared to be compared to a woman and how women do things. I feel like men do try to live up to oceity especially today and try to act tough and live up to everyones expectation on men but they are not living up to themselves. They believe women have to see them a certain way but me personally its okay if a guy cry's i don't view it like anything, its okay if a guy has feelings about certain things people judge so much when they should only judge themselves. Men should be free.

Milgram experiment

The video on the Milgram experiment was very interesting to watch. In the beginning i thought to my self these people won't go to the extend of going to the greatest shock, their conscious will stop them. The scientist when they would question him saying can i stop would convince them that its okay just to go on with the experiment and i guess because he's the person running the experiment and a "scientist" he knows want he doing the volunteers would trust in what he's saying. With that reassurance people would go on with the experiment making all the way to the highest shock, except one man who refused to go on any longer. I was actually very happy when i saw that because I think that i couldn't take all that pressure knowing that every time a man got a question wrong i thought i was actually giving his an electric shock. I think that all the participates got nervous but at the end their reactions were almost relieved that they weren't actually shocking anybody. 

The Meaning of Social Control chp4

I believe that n society can exist without social control, especially now-a-days  there is always going to be that somebody that is going to speak up and take control, no matter the size of the group.Back when there was segregation the use of social control was violence. Police and whites would do terrible things to the blacks. Now a lot of violence involves children and teenagers. Many Children are abused by someone they know, a majority of them i believe are there care takers. With teenagers a lot of the violence involves gangs, drugs, and alcohol. With enforcers the violence may not be so frequent. In this society  arguments are used more openly and is accepted by society, for example, debate.  In the situation of a group of people in the same situation and one person disagreeing I think that after giving their opinion and reasons why, that one person with a different point of view will eventually change their opinion. I think along the line of gossip you physically see it more in small towns where most people know each other and you see it in their children's school when they gossip, but also in their neighborhood and work place but I know I personally see it in schools between mothers. most of the coercive system has a lot to do with religion and how society builds up around that.
They say your friends make up who you are and that people will judge you on the group of friends that you are with and how they act and "sphere of the intimate" defines that.  Also that Friends and family are the self image of ones self. The society has made laws and rules, if laws and rules are broken consequences and punishments are taken into place. Within our society the past holds up the imprisonment in our society.
Chapter four ties into the article " The meaning of social control ". The social patterns in social behaviors such as Gossip or how people act when enforcers are around. In this chapter they discuss the macro level which in the article is similar to interrelationships for example suburbs and urban society. The social structure and social control study the pattern of behavior in social life and bringing society together back into line.

Body Ritual Among the Nacirema

I found the body ritual to be very weird, yet interesting. I thought that that is so strange how it so close to here because i would of never thought it was basically border line or USA. I found it also strange how they have shrines in your house today i think if someone had a shrine in there home it would be like a "haunted house". I realize that in this tribe the men have dominance. They also have this religious thing going where they use the temple as a place to basically but to rest the sick. TO me i think it was almost like a witch craft how they think women curse there children teaching them the body ritual.  at the end it kind of reflects how things are today, for example, people who are fat becoming thin. This article definitely caught my attention.

Video on the Stanford Experiment

The video on Stanford Experiment was very interest. At first i thought it was weird how people were volunteering to actually be in jail or be the officers, which i think on either part is hard. But at the same time i thought that this experiment was kind of cool because not everybody is aware of what happens behind those bars and i think people should be informed. The experiment got intense after everybody actually got into there roles. It was very weird how they became their role, they weren't playing it any more they were the role. It was very informing and even the family and friends that came to see the people who played the prisoners were affected. This experiment became a very efficient one because it became like a real prison. In the end the experiment had to end early because it became so real and everyone became apart of there roles and this was a lottery experiment it wasn't to become so much like real life and people were getting abused. I think this experiment was cool but scary towards the end.

Who Am I?

Who am I?
Well I will start off by saying that i am the person i am today because of my parents. They have raised me to be the outgoing responsible young lady I am. My mom would be the biggest influence in my life. She had me when she was 17 she finished high school in 3 years went to college and nursing school and worked to take care of me and set an example for me. She is such a smart person and i look up to her. I am headstrong,stubborn,strong minded, outgoing, confident, and i love to smile. If i have a strong opinion about something there is no changing my mind. People love my bubbly personality but i can be serious at times. My goal in life is to become a Detective in the Special Victims Unit. My purpose in life is to help people. i love to help people and see people happy.
